Jars of Clay

Music has always stuck in my head. Sometimes that's annoying to me (and to others), but sometimes that's really helpful. So, when Ben had his second stroke on Tuesday (4/3/12), sometime between midnight and 2 AM, it was helpful to have various parts of the lyrics from O Church Arise rolling around in my head. I was especially struck w/ the line: When faced with trials on every side, We know the outcome is secure. Sometimes, this life feels like it's all there is, and it's easy to get pulled into that mindset. But sometimes, you get that opportunity to put meaning to what you know you believe....to remember that this world is not where we belong and soon it will pass away.

We've been so encouraged this past week by our wonderful family and friends who have encouraged us and cared for us in so many ways. 2 Corinthians 4 was a real encouragement to us this week that a number of people shared with us.....especially verse 7: "But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us".....and then again in v 16-18: So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

We praise God for His work He has done in us. We appreciate your prayers through this recovery period....that we would trust in the Lord and that He would give us wisdom as we navigate the waters of determining why Ben has had two strokes in two years. Hand therapy and occupational therapy begin on Tuesday and we meet with a research doctor in another week. We're praying for a quick recovery and some better answers this time. We're very thankful that the stroke has only had a small physical impact this time, and Ben's cognitive skills were not impacted this time. We're all happy he's now home from the hospital and trying to figure out what our new normal looks like.
